Stylish Saskatchewan: Studio 2.0 Interior Design

I'm excited to begin a new series today. It's been in the works for a little while now, so I'm very glad to finally be able to share it with you!

Stylish Saskatchewan: a close-up look at the talent behind some outstanding local businesses.

The title and description pretty much say it all, but allow me to elaborate a little. Each of the featured guests will be from Saskatchewan and owns/operates a business that somehow relates to "the home". (I've left out clothing stores and restaurants for now.)

Whether you're from here, visit occasionally, or have never set foot on the flat lands, I hope this series will introduce you to some new faces.

To kick off the series, I'd like to introduce you to, Adrienne Zvacek of Studio 2.0 Interior Design Consultants, in Saskatoon, SK.

  1. How did you become interested in interior design?

I grew up on the farm and had a keen interest in all the projects my dad worked on. Whether it was one of his woodworking projects or him building our new house.  When I started high school I moved to a new school that offered many more elective classes, and one of my favourite classes was drafting.  I really enjoyed the technical, precise and problem solving skills required.  I started looking into career options related to drafting, and decided that interior design would be a great fit.

  1. What is your background in interior design (education, experience, etc.)?

I have my Bachelors of Applied Interior Design from Mount Royal College/University in Calgary.  I have owned and operated Studio 2.0 Interior Design Consultants for 4.5 years and it only feels like 1 year; I love what I do.  I love working with my clients and helping them feel secure in the decisions they are making.  Seeing my clients satisfied and smiling ear to ear once their project is complete is the greatest feeling in the world.

  1. Where or from whom do you draw inspiration?

I draw most of my inspiration from my clients.  They will be the ones living and working within their space, so ensuring it is “them” is very important.  I also draw inspiration from magazines, life experiences, and traveling (when I can).

  1. Which of your projects has been the most exciting/challenging/rewarding for you?

We did this amazing project where the clients were living in Asia during the entire renovation of the 3500 square foot bungalow.  The entire house was completely gutted and reconfigured according to Studio 2.0’s floor plans, ceiling design, electrical plans, and detail design.  We also selected all new products and materials to finish off the space.  Everything was emailed back and forth to the clients for approvals.  They had to put a lot of trust in the team that they had hired.  When the project was finished the clients were absolutely ecstatic with the results.

  1. What part of the design process do you most enjoy and what part do you least enjoy?

I thoroughly enjoy working with my clients and getting to know them on a personal level.  I have many clients that I still spend time with even though their project is complete.  The connection is the most important part of the process.  The most difficult part is saying goodbye when everything has been completed.

  1. What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned as an interior designer?

Double check, double check, get approvals and no question is ever a bad one.

  1. How would you describe your personal design style? In other words, what style would you design or decorate your own home in?

My own personal style is a mix between vintage and ultra modern.  I love clean lines and a sense of sophistication.

  1. Why did you choose Saskatoon?

I chose Saskatoon because I felt at home here.  I like a smaller big city feel, and I wanted to have a personal connection with my clients.  I like bumping into clients, contractors, builders, and suppliers while out and about in the city.  I enjoy shopping locally, and I always try to encourage my clients to purchase their products and materials locally as well.

  1. What might we catch you doing in your spare time?

In my spare time I like to spend time with my fiancé as well as take our dog for walks, cook, spend time with friends, and camping!

  1. If you could renovate/redesign one room in your home which room would it be?

I would renovate the backyard.

  1. What does the future hold for you & Studio 2.0?

I see many more years ahead of making clients happy and working with wonderful suppliers, builders, and contractors.

Thank-you, Adrienne! Now, check out some of Adrienne's work. She's provided us with some great before & after shots. (Click on images to enlarge.)
