Taking Shape: New House Progress

Happy Monday, friends, and welcome to April! I hope you had a lovely weekend. A dear friend of mine got married on Saturday and Avery was her little flower girl. She did a great job and now that it's over I can breathe easy. She walked down the aisle beautifully, dropping petals along the way. Her dress stayed fairly white throughout the day and there were no major outbursts or meltdowns. Yay. And most importantly, my friend is happily married to a great guy and they are beginning a new life together.

We also stopped by the new house to see how things are going, and it's actually starting to look like a house! It looks like they have most of the first floor and garage framed. I imagine they'll be working on the 2nd floor (upstairs) this week. Eeek!

And what do you think of this fixture? I'm considering it for the future dining room. It's quite large with a scalloped shape. Antique brass finish and a white shade.

Here's a look at what we're considering for our countertops too. Originally we thought we'd go with quartz (a man made product), but it didn't have the look I was going for. I want a marble look-alike and we just weren't getting that with quartz. Thankfully we discovered quartzite which has more variation to it and looks more like marble. Here's a look at Super White Quartzite and this is definitely more what I'm going for.

Michelle over at 4 Men 1 Lady has a great post on Quartzite if you want to learn more about it. (Read Quartzite 101.)

And since I'm on a roll with "new house stuff", here's a peak at the style of our front door. It's going to be painted black and the sidelight (tall, narrow window at left) won't have any grill lines.

A few lovely black doors that have inspired me. I should mention though that your builder may not warranty a black door because black attracts the sun, the sun makes the door extra hot, and the door may be more likely to warp. If your door faces south, black may not be the best colour for you. Just something to think about.

Hope you don't mind the little update. Have a great day and a good start to your week! Thanks for stopping by.
