Goods Reads

Hello there! I hope you're all refreshed after the weekend, although that's not likely the case for everyone. Sometimes weekends can be more tiring than the weekdays! If you have little ones, you've probably been busy putting costumes together. What fun! And Happy Halloween by the way.

I've been over at Amazon lately looking at some decorating books. (Much of my inspiration comes from reading other blogs and decorating magazine, but a good design book is hard to beat.) I haven't amassed a large number of design/decorating books, but I'm slowly adding to my collection. So far, my favourite decorating book is Domino: The Book of Decorating by Deborah Needleman.

Domino is filled with lots of great advice and inspiration. It offers some really practical and helpful tips too. I enjoyed the sections on how to mix and match furnishings to create a personal look. The back of the book has resource material on everything from furniture styles to how high curtain rods should be hung above a window. I've read it all and have referenced it many times. I would highly recommend it. Deborah's own home is featured in a section of the book. I love how cozy and family-friendly her living room looks.

A few more shots of her home...

Deborah has recently come out with another book, The Perfectly Imperfect Home: How to Decorate and Live Well.  I don't know about you, but if imperfect can somehow become perfect, that would be alright with me. (I'm pretty good at the imperfect part, so here's hoping.) I've heard some rave reviews of the book, and if it's anything like Domino, we're in for a real treat! The title will be released on November 1st (yep, that's tomorrow)!

I can't wait to delve into it, and I'll be sure to let you know how I like it. Enjoy your day!

Holy Hardware, Batman!

Hello, friends. Happy Friday to you all! Sorry I wasn't around yesterday. We have been quite the social butterflies the last few days. Anyway, that's not really the norm for us. We're usually rather hermit-like, but we do get out from time to time to visit with other humans.

So, I've been thinking about the "top 5" posts I've been doing every Friday for quite some time now. I enjoy doing them, but I often have trouble keeping the list to 5 favourites. Calling it "top 5" was becoming a bit of a joke. Anyway, I've decided just to share some favourites every Friday. The content will still be home furnishings and accessories, but there's no point calling it a top 5 when it rarely is.

This week I've rounded up some favourite hardware for you. I've tried to go with sources that are more familiar.

First off, a few favourites from Home Depot:

Favourites from Restoration Hardware:

From Lowe's:

From Lee Valley:

Anthropologie:

I also really love these brass pulls Jen of Made by Girl used on her new sideboard. They are available through myknobs.com.

"Holy Jumble, Batman!" (And happy weekend too!)

Dark Beauty

With Halloween around the corner, I couldn’t help but go dark! Check out this amazing painter, Sylvia Ji, as she reveals her dark side (btw, what a cool Halloween costume!). Also designers that were able to find beauty in darkness...

Happy Friday 10.28.11

Happy Friday everyone!

Sorry for the lack of posts this week, I have been working off site this week and haven't had a second to breathe. But it's Friday, so I'm happy!!

This weekend  I plan on relaxing (again), doing some sofa window shopping (word on the street is the Crate & Barrel outlet in Old Town Alexandria has a ton of sofas so I'm going to start there) and spending time with my hubby. I also might start researching some great Thanksgiving recipes, since I'm hosting for my family the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.

In the meantime, I'll leave you with a super pretty, feminine room that I just adore. If you are a woman living by yourself, this is totally the time to rock pink in your apartment...believe me once you get married your husband will never let you paint a room pink. Isn't it just lovely!

Have a wonderful weekend!

furlicious

I'm on my way to Boston today to see my niece SAMANTHA and all I can think about is bundling up like a big fur ball and wearing warm clothes - which leads me to these stunners.  Fur can make for such a great layering piece for a room. It adds a touch of warmth and depth that I LOVE!
