With it being the last day of August, I thought I'd have a look back at the summer fun we've had. I know there's still some summer left, but once September hits, it starts to feel less like summer and more like fall.
Here are a few favourite summer things to do...
We also LOVE the park and hanging out with family and friends. Another thing we enjoy is the summer produce, especially all the fresh fruit (I'm sure we ate several pounds of blueberries over the last few months).
The more these two little people hang out, the closer they become...
They make each other laugh, they look out for each other, and they are starting to play together more and more. It's such a blessing to watch them interact.
I hope you've had a wonderful summer, enjoying the things that matter most.

My Dream Office Space: Burnham Design
I am so excited today I can't stand it...I am going to my first Interior Design class at the Corcoran in Georgetown!!! I can't wait to be in a room with a bunch of people who like to talk about design for 5 hours straight!!
One day, many years from now I would love to work at a super cool design firm like Burnham Design!
If you have ever redone your home office and searched for inspirational images...most likely you saved the following image as one of your favorites!
Well it is no surprise that this infamous office is home to Burnham Design! Here are more pics of their office space. Seriously I love every inch!
Who is behind this fabulous office? Betsy Burnham is the principal designer and founder of Burnham Design. Originally from the east coast (she graduated from Dartmouth) Burnham's design philosophy includes an "unapologetic mix, that layers pattern, texture and periods." According to her website profile, Betsy is addicted to accessories, loves menswear-inspired fabrics and fervently believes in mixing thrift with couture!
Betsy Burnham totally rocks! Check out some of her other spaces below:

More than clothes in the closet...
Hello! How are you on this fine Tuesday? I suppose those of you who have school aged children are gearing up for school and perhaps have even started back. It's always an exciting time of year. I can remember shopping for school supplies and new clothes and packing up my back pack for that first day back.
Anyway, that has nothing to do with what I want to share today, other than the bit about clothes. I have some lovely closets to share today, and they all have this one thing in common - all of them are furnished closets which makes them more like dressings rooms. I've noticed that, if people have the space, they seem to be turning their closets into more than a place to store the clothes. Many closets now have stylish seating, tables or desks, dressing tables, and even fireplaces! Have a look.
A fireplace in a closet seems like a real luxury, but it would so nice on those cold, winter mornings.
Now, I'm off to catch a quick nap. It was one of those nights last night in the MacMillan household, and everyone is a little on the tired side.

Feathers Everywhere
Happy Monday! The last week of August... already?! Wowzers. I've really enjoyed the summer though; it's been very beautiful in our part of the world. Many trips to the park, lots of swimming, travelling here and there... we've enjoyed all the summer goodness. I hope you have too!
For today, I thought I'd share one trend I've noticed popping up in all sorts of places. That trend is the use of feathers. Here's a space designed by Samantha Pynn that puts an extra large feather photograph front and centre.
I've managed to round up a few "feather furnishings" for the home. As you can see, there's everything from pendants to pillows to platters.

And a few fashionable feathers...
Feathers bring a natural, earthy feel to a home, but also have a whimsical, dreamy, and perhaps slightly feminine feel to them.
Yes, feathers are everywhere!

Sheryl Crow's lovely HH home in Architectural Digest
Hi friends & family,
Sorry for the scattered posts last week, it was a rough one to say the very least...plus add in an earthquake and hurricane and work madness and it was almost too much for one person to take :)
But I am back and energized. I have my first interior design class at the Corcoran this Wednesday and I am over the moon!!
But in the meantime, I thought I'd start of the week with pics of forever low-key Sheryl Crow's Hollywood Hills estate (yes estate, she owns 11 acres and 3 adjoining homes in the Hills). It is eclectic with major nods toward a Spanish heritage...but still modern and romantic.
You know I am a sucker for white walls and black framed windows...you just can't go wrong. Everything you add to the room after this looks fabulous!! I loved that she collected all of this over her travels and didn't use a designer. It looks perfectly collected, and edited.
I would give my right arm (okay maybe not literally my arm) to be laying in that hammock with a good book and a sweet tea right now!
